BURGHOUND – ALLEN MEADOWS – 2024

Nous avons eu le plaisir de recevoir Allen Meadows pour une dégustation de nos vins au mois de juin 2024, ci-dessous ses notes de dégustations :

  •  Chablis 1er cru « Vaillons »91 pts

This is aromatically similar to the Vosgros but with the addition of plenty of floral character plus white pepper nuances. The caressing middle weight flavors possess a finer texture as well as even more obviously mineral-inflected finish that deliver fine punch and persistence. This is pretty much classic Vaillons and worth a look.

  • Chablis 1er cru « Vosgros »: 91 pts

Ripe and airy aromas are comprised by notes of quinine, tidal pool, citrus rind and a touch of Granny Smith. There is better volume as well as more mid-palate concentration to the moderately powerful medium-bodied flavors that possess notably better depth and persistence on the attractively dry finale. Good stuff with only a touch of rusticity.

  • Chablis Grand Cru  » Preuses »: 91-93 pts  (tank tasting)

Here too an expressive and elegant nose presents just enough Chablis typicity to be interesting along with a range of white-fleshed fruit and discreet citrus wisps. The harmonious and highly seductive medium weight flavors are notably finer if not quite as powerful while displaying fine length on the balanced finale. While this too could use better depth, the overall impression is quite stylish, indeed almost delicate, which is somewhat unusual for Preuses.

  • Chablis Grand Cru « Bougros »: 90-93 pts  (tank tasting)

Here too there is just enough Chablis typicity lurking in the background of the green fruit, citrus confit and soft mineral reduction nuances to make it clear where this is from. The succulent, rich and plush medium-bodied flavors possess both solid density and intensity along with evident power that seems to build on the impressively long and lightly stony finale. This could use better depth but it appears to have the potential to develop more.

  • Chablis 1er Cru « Vaucoupin »: 89-92 pts  (tank tasting)

A slightly riper nose is comprised by notes of white peach, quinine and enough Chablis typicity to be persuasive. The generous, rich and tender yet nicely vibrant medium weight flavors display only adequate depth on the lingering finish that possesses solid balance. While this is sufficiently supple to be enjoyed almost immediately, I would be inclined to give it a few years of cellaring first in the hopes that better complexity will progressively develop.

  • Chablis « La vigne de 1975 » : 89-91 pts ( tank tasting)

A cooler and more fully layered nose freely offers up its aromas of citrus, tidal pool, quinine and green apple. There is also better depth to the nicely vibrant, if not especially dense, medium weight flavors that exude evident minerality on the beautifully textured, balanced, crisp and nicely dry finale. This is a quality villages.
