DECANTER – 2020

Chablis 2019 – 91 pts
“Another Chablis from the (often-overlooked) commune of Prehy, Celine & Frederic Gueguen have produced a Chablis with an excellent balance between fruit ripeness and bright acidity. Fleshy, forward and appealing, there is good concentration here with citrus acidity to keep the palate fresh. An appealing spicy note rounds of the finish. »

Chablis 1er Cru Vosgros 2019- 93 pts
« A relatively recent estate – Celine’s father is Jean-Marc Brocard, whilst Frederic worked at Domaine Durup. A classy Vosgros with ripeness of stone fruit allied to an intriguing fennel/herb character on the palate. Fleshy, with plenty of warmth from the vintage, this is married with a tangy, flinty finish. A fine Premier Cru, drinkable already and with good concentration for further ageing. »

Chablis 1er Cru Vaucoupin 201991 pts
“Tank sample. Notes of gun-flint and zesty acidity, this is showing its age (in tank sample terms). Nice body and good concentration, just lacking a bit of vitality now. I suspect the final bottling will be worthy of this score. »

Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 2019- 93 pts
« Showing rather more of a rich, toastier style, this has some driving mineral characters underneath with lovely concentration. The freshness imparted by the east-facing, steeply-sloping face of Blanchot contrasts with the warmth and ripeness of the 2019 vintage. A Grand Cru which has a fine balance of richness, power and structure, that is already drinking very well. »
