Céline et Frédéric Gueguen – 2024

Tasted in their shop in Chablis with Frédéric & Céline Gueguen, 03 February 2026.

Fred on 2025:
Quite an easy season without frost or hail – we thought a good volume too – but then came some rain at harvest time and we had to go faster to avoid some botrytis-rot. Wines that are less rich than 2023 – maybe more like 2022. The volume in the end was ‘almost’ good…

Fred on 2024:
We quit organic in May – it saved our harvest, without that we wouldn’t have made the 45-50 hl/ha we achieved… Almost all the wines are bottled, just two will be done in the next days. And the commerce is quite good – it’s just the local commerce that’s slow – but it’s January-February, so…

The team had another 15 hectares of vines bought from a retiring domaine at the end of 2024 – so work 40 hectares of vines since 2025. A new cuverie uniting their (now) three wine-making facilities is underway but it’s more than a year away…

The wines…

Always a super range here – and the entry wines are just so good for their labels. Well-done to the team here !!

From 2018 the wines are DIAM sealed, not just the entry ones – some screw-cap also remain:

2024 Bourgogne Rouge La Vigne d’Emile
This from the terroirs of St.Bris – vines from Céline’s grandfather.
Modest colour. Airy, wide, red fruit energy. Supple – more concentrated than the colour suggested.Crunchy fruit with a small finishing vibration. Good energy – a good, and quite perfumed wine…

Les Whites:

2024 Saint-Bris Curiosité de Bourgogne
Always last harvested.
Hmm, the mint-leaf of sauvignon but a little rounder than some this vintage. Mineral, a small cushion, lovely texture. Very pretty and obviously a sauvignon. Very mineral finishing – a nice tension – that’s lovely…

2024 Bourgogne Aligoté Vieilles-Vignes
Next to the last harvested – it depends on the year. Vines from 1965, planted by Céline’s grandfather – like the St.Bris with a north, north-east exposure.
Nicely incisive – that’s a great start. Wide, melting, steely minerality – cool flavours and rather concentrated for an Bourgogne Aligoté. Excellent wine…

2024 Bourgogne Chardonnay Côtes Salines
Vines south of Préhy on Kimmerigian, a little from around St.Bris too – but the latter is only about 20% of the mix.
Fresh and wide – that’s a wide, perfumed embrace – lovely. Stony, architectural but never hard. Precise, intense and long. Top Bourgogne – and the Chablis style is obvious here.

2024 Coteaux Bourguignons Sacy Cépage Confidential
A more saline core but open and freshly attractive again. Ultra saline, but citrus energy abounds too. Hmm, saline, tasty impressive finishing energy. I love this wine every year !!

2024 Petit Chablis
From 1.3 hectares in Préhy.
Deep aromas again, a little more towards yellow citrus and slowly floral too. Extra wide, super intense – lovely, mouth-watering flavour – a cascade of energy – probably better to drink young on the fruit and the acidity is overt but delicious today – it could lack a little cushion in 3 more years. Love it today though !!.

2024 Chablis
From Préhy and Chichée – 6.5 hectares worth. With the Bourgogne this is the largest cuvée of the domaine.
Some width, a more discrete aroma vs most, but it’s an attractive slightly yellow-shaded citrus. Good energy again – a little more mouth-filling vs the direct style of the PC. Finishing well, with energy but less overt – a little zestiness creeping into this finish – what a lovely wine – yum!

2024 Chablis ‘La Vigne de 1975
‘We wanted to do a different cuvée but everyone does ‘old vines’, they are not the oldest vines that we have, but they are the same vintage as me and Céline!’ Vines in Préhy.
Another more discrete aromatic – some floral width again and the impression of a small acidulation to the citrus. Strict but mouth-filling – quite a mineral structure and really saline – that’s a great Chablis finish.

2024 Chablis 1er Vosgros
Some hail here – so only half a harvest.
A deeper, more vertical nose – extra concentration of fruit in the middle. Some gas – this and the Vaucoupin not yet bottled. Extra complexity in the middle and finish – and holding energetically too – what a super finish – slowly growing with some floral style too. That’s lovely wine – potentially excellent…

2024 Chablis 1er Vaillons
This a long-term contract since the 2021 vintage – the team here do the harvesting too.
More open, more yellow citrus subtly floral too. So wide, wonderfully fluid, mouth-watering, melting its flavour over the palate. Slowly easing into the distance in this finish – a super finish. Lovely wine…

2024 Chablis 1er Fourchaume
Also, like the Vaillons, a contract since 2021. From Côte de Fontenay.
Very wide but a much calmer, fuller, almost faintly spiced yellow citrus. Super scale and freshness that catches you by surprise after the calm of the nose. Slowly, the generosity of the wine takes over, another with super finishing salinity – a certain elegance here too. That’s a beautiful Fourchaume – not the golden fruit and power of typical wines. Yum!

2024 Chablis 1er Vaucoupin
Older vines in one single parcel, planted in 1975.
More open, wider – with high toned freshness. Concentrated, supple, melting – very mineral. Holding a strong finishing line of flavour – ooh what a baby – small finishing bitters and lasting long. It’s excellent today – it could be great in 5 years

2024 Chablis Bougros
From ‘Clos de Roy’ in Bougros following the road opposite the plantations of cereal and the Petit Chablis
Large but more airy style to this aromatic – a ripe but still fresh citrus fruit. Extra juicy energy from this mouth-filling wine – the power here is a proper step up. I’d plan to wait 3 years to start, 5 will be better but this is a super wine already, finishing with a small chalky texture at the end. Lovely !!
